Halquinol 60% is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial feed additive (5,7-dichloro-8-hydroxyquinoline) widely used in poultry to support gut health, growth performance, and feed efficiency. It acts against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and some protozoa primarily by chelating essential metal ions needed for microbial metabolism, thereby reducing pathogenic load in the intestine. In broilers, inclusion at low ppm levels (commonly ~25–30 ppm active) has been associated with improved body weight gain, better feed conversion ratio, reduced incidence of diarrhea and enteritis, and more stable gut microflora, especially under sub-optimal hygiene or disease challenge conditions. Halquinol is non-systemic, works locally in the gut, and is often positioned as a non-antibiotic growth and gut health promoter, though its use is subject to country-specific regulatory guidelines and recommended withdrawal periods.
